Laurie Gill, a retired partner in Goodwin's IP Litigation Group, focuses her practice on patent infringement and validity litigation. She also handles cases involving trade secrets and non-competition covenants. She has extensive experience in all aspects of pharmaceutical patent litigation, from initial counseling and opinion work through trial and appeal, and has represented both brand manufacturers and generic challengers. In addition, Ms. Gill has litigated intellectual property disputes on behalf of clients in the publishing, telecommunications, electronics and medical device industries.

Professional Experience

Prior to joining Goodwin, she was a partner at Palmer & Dodge in Boston, where she specialized in complex commercial litigation, as well as intellectual property litigation.

Representative Matters

She has recently represented:

  • Teva Pharmaceuticals in patent litigation concerning its branded treatment for Parkinson’s disease, Azilect®. Teva prevailed after a bench trial in May 2013 before Judge Claire C. Cecchi in the U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey. Judge Cecchi ruled that Teva’s patent covering the use of Azilect® to treat Parkinson’s disease was valid and infringed.   • Teva Pharmaceuticals in patent litigation challenging a patent claiming Lovenox®, a treatment for deep vein thrombosis. Judge Mariana Pfaelzer ruled in Teva’s favor after a bench trial, finding that the patent was unenforceable as a result of inequitable conduct. This ruling was affirmed by the Federal Circuit in 2008. (Trial and appellate counsel)
  • Teva Pharmaceuticals in patent litigation challenging patents covering the pharmaceutical products Aricept®, Cubicin®, Avandia® and Levaquin®. (Trial counsel)
