Lindsay Hoyle is counsel in Goodwin’s Complex Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice and an experienced advocate in both New York state and federal court. Lindsay’s practice focuses on representing financial institutions and major corporations in a wide variety of complex commercial disputes, government and internal investigations, and regulatory and enforcement proceedings. Lindsay regularly represents clients before federal and state regulators, including investigations by the DOJ, SEC, FINRA, the New York Attorney General’s office, and the New York office of the Inspector General. She joined the firm in 2014.

Professional Experience

Lindsay has represented clients in federal and state courts, civil and criminal investigations brought by governmental authorities, internal investigations, and in proceedings in major domestic and international arbitration forums.

Lindsay’s recent representations include:

  • A leading international financial institution in an antitrust class action multi-district litigation relating to interest rate derivatives
  • Negrete v. Citibank N.A., 759 F. Supp. 3d 454 (S.D.N.Y. 2016) and 237 F. App'x 42 (2d Cir. 2019) (affirming dismissal of fraud, contract and negligence claims advanced against Citibank by FX traders concerning allegations of undisclosed markups on FX limit orders and purportedly erroneous margin calls)
  • Elmrock Opportunity Master Fund I, L.P. v. Citicorp. N.A., Inc., 155 A.D.3d 411 (1st Dep’t 2017) (affirming dismissal of fraud and breach of fiduciary duty claims brought by purchasers of an option in residual value of a sale and leaseback transaction)
  • Represented multiple institutional clients, employees and directors in investigations by criminal and civil regulatory agencies including the DOJ, SEC, the New York State Attorney General, the New York Office of the Inspector General, and FINRA
  • Represented an international financial institution in a number of arbitrations involving employment and commercial disputes

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Lindsay worked as a Special Assistant District Attorney for the Kings County (Brooklyn) District Attorney’s Office in 2019, where she prosecuted felony cases and conducted evidentiary hearings and a jury trial. Lindsay also has an active pro bono practice, representing individuals in a variety of federal and state matters, including death penalty appeal, asylum, clemency, and the denial of free appropriate public education matters. 

Lindsay is a member of the American Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association.
