Dr. Ni has extensive experience on patent drafting and prosecution, and performing freedom-to-operate, patentability, invalidity, and non-infringement analysis. He has assisted with IP due diligence for venture capital backed investments and strategic counseling for early stage life science companies.
Dr. Ni works primarily in the areas of organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceuticals, polymers, nanomaterials, and electric batteries.
For more than eight years, Dr. Ni was a senior research scientist for some of the world’s leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies. In addition to his core field of organic chemistry, Dr. Ni has extensive experience in the application of therapeutics in the oncology, inflammation, immunology, and neuroscience fields. While working in the pharma and biotech industry, he co-developed a number of small molecule therapeutics through the preclinical stage. Dr. Ni is a co-author of more than 10 peer-reviewed scientific articles published in journals including Journal of the American Chemical Society, Organic Letters, and Journal of Medicinal Chemistry. He is also an inventor on five issued U.S. Patents.
Dr. Ni earned his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Wayne State University, where he studied organometallic chemistry and natural product synthesis. He was a postdoctoral scholar at the California Institute of Technology, working on organocatalysis and organic synthesis. Dr. Ni is a J.D. candidate at the New England School of Law, expected graduation in May 2020.
