J.T. Roy has over 25 years of experience as a paralegal, including 20 years concentrated in the areas of business and finance. Ms. Roy has assisted attorneys on a variety of transactional matters within the private equity field, including start-ups, mergers, recapitalizations and acquisitions of both assets and stocks. She joined Goodwin in 2006.

Experience

Ms. Roy has extensive experience in corporate compliance, due diligence, data rooms, preclosings, all types of closings, and post closing deadlines. Since 1992, she has worked closely with several venture capital clients and on the acquisition team of a public company. Ms. Roy’s two years of experience in complex bankruptcy matters in Denver, Colorado and her work in complex financings and borrowings on both the lender and borrower side contribute to her familiarity with certain real estate and collateral issues under the Uniform Commercial Code, Section 9.

Ms. Roy is an active member of the National Capital Area Paralegal Association. She has served both as a member of the board of directors and chair of various committees.

Prior to joining Goodwin, Ms. Roy was a senior paralegal in the Washington, D.C. office of Hogan & Hartson.

Since 1991, Ms. Roy has been a guest lecturer and adjunct professor at Georgetown University in the Paralegal Program, teaching classes on “Large Case Management/Complex Corporate Transactions” and “Business/Corporate Law 101.”
