Dr. Katharina Stengel is a science advisor and registered patent agent focusing on U.S. and foreign patent prosecution, freedom to operate analysis, and IP diligence. She has a broad technical background including large molecule therapy, gene therapy, immune therapy, and allogeneic CAR-T cell therapy with a focus on oncology applications.
Prior to joining Goodwin, Dr. Stengel was a patent agent and scientist at Caribou Biosciences, Inc., in Berkeley, CA. At Caribou, she worked on CRISPR-Cas genome editing technologies and allogeneic CAR-T cell therapies targeting hematological cancers. She earned her Ph.D. in Structural Biology and Biochemistry and a Diploma in Chemistry from Ruprecht Karls University Heidelberg, Germany. Her doctoral research focused on protein cell sorting mechanisms in bacterial and plant cells. After her Ph.D., she pursued a postdoctoral fellowship at Genentech, Inc., South San Francisco, CA, where she was involved in the development of neutralizing antibodies targeting viral entry as well as antibodies targeting check point inhibitor signaling on T cells.
