Before joining Goodwin, Dr. Zhang was a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Chemical Engineering at MIT under the mentorship of Prof. Robert Langer, where his research focused on developing novel materials to be used in a gastro-residence device for prolonged gastrointestinal drug delivery. Prior to Dr. Zhang’s postdoctoral position, he received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Boston University under the guidance of Prof. Mark Grinstaff, where his research centered on de novo design and development of novel polycarbonates-based biomaterial materials. Dr. Zhang also received his M.S. in Pharmacy from The University of Iowa, where his research focused on total synthesis of natural product Superstolide. Dr. Zhang has published numerous research and review articles as lead author in high impact journals, such as Journal of the American Chemical Society, Chemical Review, Chemical Science, ACS Macro Letter.
Dr. Heng Zhang is a science advisor in the firm’s Business Law Department and a member of its Intellectual Property Group. He joined Goodwin in 2018.
Dr. Zhang assists clients with prior art search, patentability and freedom to operate analyses, as well as patent preparation and prosecution. Dr. Zhang has extensive and in-depth experience throughout the whole pharmaceuticals development pipeline, including synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, polymer chemistry, biomaterials, drug delivery, and medical devices.
