Summary
On January 21, the Supreme Court heard arguments in Trump v. Cook, addressing President Trump’s removal of Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, and members of Goodwin’s Supreme Court practice were in the courtroom to see it. This case is one of a long string of removals of agency heads by the Trump Administration, this time involving an agency that has a massive impact on the American economy. In this webinar, Jaime Santos, Jordan Bock, and Cassie Snyder recapped the argument and discussed how the issues in Lisa Cook’s case intersect with broader separation of powers concerns being decided by the Court this Term, and how these issues could reshape the balance between executive authority and agency independence.
