Global law firm Goodwin today announced that it has signed a lease to relocate its downtown Los Angeles office to At Mateo, located at 555 Mateo Street, in the city’s vibrant Arts District. The move reflects the firm’s continued investment in Southern California as a critical innovation ecosystem spanning Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Orange County, and San Diego.
Goodwin will occupy the entire second floor of the building, which spans approximately 29,000 square feet and will serve as the new home to more than 75 lawyers and Global Operations Team (“GO Team”) members.
Located in one of Los Angeles’ most vital neighborhoods for startups and emerging businesses, the neighborhood provides a dynamic backdrop for collaboration, bringing the firm even closer to its client base.
“Our move to At Mateo reflects our long-term commitment to Los Angeles and our broader strategy to be deeply immersed in the industries we serve,” said David Pendergast, chair of the Los Angeles office and partner at Goodwin. “Southern California has become a powerful innovation corridor spanning Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Orange County, and San Diego. From aerospace, space and defense to life sciences, SaaS and consumer products, this region is driving transformative growth. Our expanded presence positions us alongside the founders, investors, and companies leading that momentum and allows us to deliver strategic, industry-focused counsel at every stage of their development.”
The new office has been designed to foster connection and flexibility — creating a more integrated experience for its lawyers, GO Team members, and clients. The space will feature communal areas for collaboration and roll-up garage doors that open onto a spacious balcony, allowing for plenty of natural light.
“Goodwin is trailblazing with this move to the Arts District, one of L.A.’s coolest and most compelling neighborhoods. Sharing the building with innovative companies such as Spotify further underscores the firm’s commitment to being at the center of the creative and entrepreneurial energy defining the area. The firm will capitalize on the area’s rich amenities while creating a unique opportunity for top-tier lawyers and emerging talent to join an elite global firm,” said Goodwin’s representative in the transaction, Mike Catalano, vice chairman of Savills.
The relocation is part of Goodwin’s broader expansion across Southern California. The firm recently opened a new Orange County office focused on cybersecurity and technology litigation and will open a San Diego office this summer, further strengthening its presence in one of the country’s leading life sciences, biotech, and technology markets. Complementing Goodwin’s Santa Monica office, which opened in 2018, the Santa Monica and Arts District locations together serve the greater Los Angeles area and strengthen Goodwin’s coordinated presence across Southern California’s key innovation markets.
Goodwin also maintains a strong presence in Northern California through its Silicon Valley and San Francisco offices, enabling it to serve clients across California’s growth landscape.
The Los Angeles office move follows the recent expansion of Goodwin’s global footprint with relocations in San Francisco, Munich, London and a new office in Brussels.
ASB Real Estate Investments, the landlord, was represented by Pete Collins and Mike Condon with Cushman & Wakefield, Goodwin by Mike Catalano and Steve Barker at Savills, and Spotify by Sheena Golhil and Michael Weiner at Colliers.
