Timothy Beavers is an associate in Goodwin’s Intellectual Property Litigation practice. He represents clients in complex intellectual property disputes across a variety of industries, including biotechnology, small and large molecule pharmaceuticals, medical devices, drug delivery, and computer processing technologies. His experiences span pre-suit investigation through trial and appeals. Beyond litigation, Timothy’s experiences also include inter partes review, and IP diligence and freedom to operate analysis. Timothy also represents pro bono clients in civil rights, products liability, and immigration matters.

Litigation

  • Represented a public company in BPCIA litigation concerning proposed biosimilar to a pharmaceutical drug filed in New Jersey and in a related multi-district litigation, involving more than 40 asserted patents concerning pharmaceutical formulations, dosing regimen, biologic manufacturing methods, devices, etc.
  • Representing a technology company in patent litigation related to nucleic acid enrichment and sequencing technology.
  • Represented a pharmaceutical company in Hatch Waxman litigation concerning patents listed for an antidepressant medication. 
  • Representing a pharmaceutical company in trade secret and unfair competition litigation related to the development of novel peptides to treat complement-mediated diseases.
  • Represented a division of a global healthcare pharmaceutical manufacturing company in litigation related to an ophthalmic product, including defeating a preliminary injunction motion and successfully arguing the appeal of an order staying the case pending IPR.
  • Representing a pharmaceutical company against reverse-payment antitrust claims challenging the prior settlement of Hatch Waxman patent litigation regarding the company’s generic versions of various drugs.

PTAB

  • Representing a technology company as back-up counsel in six IPRs related to nucleic acid sequencing technology.
  • Represented a division of a global healthcare pharmaceutical manufacturing company as back-up counsel in two IPRs related to eye drop formulations.

Pro Bono

  • Representing individuals applying for asylum in the US 
  • Represented the ACLU and individuals seeking access to COVID treatment while in ICE detention
  • Represented the District of Columbia in civil litigation against Proud Boys International, LLC, Oath Keepers, and individual members of the organizations for their roles in the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol*
  • Represented plaintiffs in the A.I.I.L. et al. v. Sessions et al. litigation concerning the federal government’s family separation policies*
  • Represented nine families of the victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting in litigation against Remington Arms Co.*
