Varun Bhatnagar

Varun is an associate in Goodwin’s Data Privacy and Cybersecurity and Consumer Financial Services Litigation practices.

Varun represents and advises clients in a variety of class action and commercial litigation. His practice focuses on complex consumer privacy and data breach litigation as well as consumer financial services litigation relating to various federal and state consumer protection laws. He also has experience in trade secrets disputes.

Varun’s recent experience includes:

• Defense of leading cloud computing and technology company against consumer class action lawsuit arising from alleged cybersecurity incident
• Defense of Fortune 100 financial services company against regulatory action arising from government contract
• Defense of mortgage company against regulatory action arising from alleged cybersecurity incident
• Defense of multiple online retailers and technology companies against alleged violations of CIPA and other state and federal wiretapping laws for use of internet marketing and analytics tools
• Representation of major wholesale mortgaging company in real estate dispute
• Representation of healthcare AI provider in response to data incident through forensics phase 
• Successful defense of third-party logistics company against alleged violation of state privacy law
• Successful defense of stock video company against alleged violation of Video Privacy Protection Act
• Defense of alleged criminal trade secrets theft and economic espionage in Northern District of California
• Defense of healthcare, energy clients across multiple trade secrets cases 

Varun is a member of the Southern California branch of the South Asian Bar Association as well as the Privacy Law Section of the California Lawyers Association.

Varun was a data scientist before starting law school. In law school, he was on the editorial staff for the Journal of Technology and Intellectual Property.

Varun is an editor of the Consumer Finance Insights Blog and the Consumer Financial Services Year In Review publication.
