Richard J. Grabowski

Richard Grabowski is a partner in Goodwin’s Complex Litigation & Dispute Resolution group. 

Richard has served as lead counsel on more than 100 federal and state consumer class actions in a variety of jurisdictions. He has broad class action experience involving a range of industries and claims, including Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA), and Unfair Competition Law (UCL) claims. Richard has also served as lead counsel in responding to parallel government investigations including the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), and multi-state Attorneys General investigations.

In addition, Richard has extensive experience in trade secret and unfair competition disputes. In 2021, he received the Daily Journal “Top Defense Verdict” of the Year in California in a high-stakes trade secrets dispute involving complex loss forecast models developed for major financial institution portfolios. Richard also has extensive experience litigating large data breach cases. In 2023, he again received the Daily Journal “Top Defense Verdict” of the Year in California after obtaining a defense verdict in one of the largest data breach cases to ever proceed to trial.

Richard also regularly advises clients on legal and regulatory risks related to data collection, analytics and emerging technologies.

Prior to joining Goodwin, Richard was a partner at Jones Day. 

Richard is a member of the board of directors of the Federal Bar Association, a member of the Orange County Bar Association, and has served as a Lawyer Representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference.
