Gozde Guckaya

Gozde Guckaya is an associate in the firm’s Global Trade practice. Gozde assists clients in complying with US export controls and economic sanctions laws and regulations, including the US Export Administration Regulations (EAR), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and those administered by the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). She counsels clients in lawfully exporting goods, software, and services, with particular experience in life sciences, medical device, and software products. Her practice focuses on export control classifications, compliance policy preparation, and trade-related due diligence in mergers, acquisitions, investments, and in the licensing, collaboration, and joint venture contexts. She also conducts internal investigations and prepares voluntary self-disclosures in connection with potential violations of trade regulations.

Gozde is experienced in assessing national security risk under the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) regulations in cross-border transactions. She also advises clients on compliance with anti-corruption and anti-bribery laws, including the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), including documenting best practices and conducting due diligence for transactions.

Gozde leverages her biomedical and electrical engineering training and research experience in analyzing products and technologies and advising clients on trade-related issues pertinent to companies in the life sciences (including small molecule, biotechnology, and radiopharmaceutical), medical device, software, and other industries.

As a registered patent attorney with the US Patent and Trademark Office, Gozde has advised clients in patent prosecution matters, strategic patent portfolio development, patent opinions, and intellectual property-related aspects of transactions in the areas of medical devices, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials, communications systems, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cryptocurrency, and financial technology.

Prior to joining Goodwin, Gozde was a patent agent at a local IP boutique firm and an IP manager at a Massachusetts-based technology company, overseeing a global patent portfolio and advising on IP-oriented business strategy. Gozde has also worked as a research engineer at a biotechnology company in Boston and as an intern at large and medium-sized pharmaceutical companies.
