Gozde Guckaya is an associate in the firm’s Global Trade practice. Under the supervision of Global Trade attorneys, Ms. Guckaya assists with matters relating to U.S. export controls, economic sanctions, and the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). Ms. Guckaya leverages her biomedical and electrical engineering background in analyzing trade-related issues pertinent to life science, biotechnology, and technology companies. Her experience includes export classifications, CFIUS risk assessments, compliance policies, internal investigations, and trade-related due diligence in transactions.
As a registered patent agent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Ms. Guckaya also assists clients with patent prosecution (in both utility and design applications), strategic patent portfolio development, patent opinions, and advising in intellectual property related aspects of transactions. Ms. Guckaya’s patent practice is focused in the areas of medical devices, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials, communications systems, cybersecurity, cryptocurrency, and financial technology.
Prior to joining Goodwin, Ms. Guckaya was a patent agent at a local IP boutique firm and an IP manager at WiTricity Corporation in Watertown, Massachusetts, overseeing a global patent portfolio and advising on IP-oriented business strategy. In the past, Ms. Guckaya has also worked as a research engineer at a Boston-based biotechnology company and as an intern at large and medium-sized pharmaceutical companies.
