Examples of Maria’s recent representations include:
- Representing a technology company and CEO in connection with SEC and DOJ investigations into insider trading by a former company executive
- Defending a pharmaceutical company in a securities class action relating to misstatements about clinical trial results, which resulted in dismissal of all claims
- Defending a power company in a securities class action brought in response to an accounting restatement, which resulted in dismissal of all claims
- Representing a mutual fund company and Retirement Plan Committee in an ERISA class action alleging that investment options in 401(k) plans had excessive fees and/or poor performance at trial, which resulted in a full defense verdict
- Representing a technology company and its directors and officers in an SEC investigation and securities class action litigation alleging misstatements about the company’s financials
- Advising online gaming operators on compliance with state and federal gambling law and in responding to cease-and-desist letters from state regulators
- Representing a major cannabis company in an arbitration alleging breach of contract and consumer protection claims
- Representing a large REIT in litigation related to disputes with its former external manager
- Defending a nationwide mortgage lender and servicer in an anti-kickback case seeking hundreds of millions of dollars in damages brought under the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act of 1974

Professional Experience
Maria focuses her practice on securities litigation, white collar defense, government and internal investigations, and complex commercial litigation. She has worked with clients including public and private companies, real estate investment trusts, boards of directors, committees, and individuals. Maria also has an active pro bono practice, including representing an indigent criminal defendant in a federal matter, representing tenants in housing court matters, and representing asylum seekers in immigration matters.
In 2024, Maria participated in a six-month rotation with the King’s County (Brooklyn) District Attorney’s Office, where she served as a special Assistant District Attorney. In that role, she prosecuted numerous felony and misdemeanor cases, which included presentations before the Grand Jury, conducting hearings, investigating cases, negotiating pleas, and preparing trials.
During law school, Maria served as a judicial intern for Magistrate Judge Marianne Bowler at the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, as well as a legal intern for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Civil Division, Eastern District of New York.
Maria was a Senior Editor for the Boston College Law School Law Review. She was also teaching assistant for Professor Katherine Young at Boston College Law School, where she assisted with a 1L Contracts course.
