Sean Reed

Sean Reed is an associate in Goodwin’s Life Sciences group and Patent Prosecution practice. Sean focuses his practice on strategic patent counseling to clients on a wide variety of technologies, including therapeutics and biotechnology platforms. Sean’s scientific expertise includes small molecules chemistry, antibodies, ADCs, siRNA, and chemical biology tools for biopolymer synthesis and diagnostics. Sean works with clients at all stages — from start-ups to public companies, to design create patent portfolios tailored to support business strategies. His counseling experience includes freedom to operate analysis; due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, private financings/public markets; technical expertise for trade secret litigation; and all stages of preparation and prosecution of patent filings in both the US and international jurisdictions, as well as post-grant procedures and. Sean joined Goodwin in 2026.

Prior to joining Goodwin, Sean was an associate at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. Previously, Sean obtained his PhD in chemistry from University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, where he studied transition metal-catalyzed C-H activation for organic synthesis applications. After receiving his PhD, Sean worked as an NIH postdoctoral fellow at The Scripps Research Institute where he studied artificial expanded and reduced genetic code organisms.
