David Anthony Serati is an associate in Goodwin’s Intellectual Property Litigation practice who represents both plaintiffs and defendants in complex patent disputes across federal district courts and post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. His practice focuses on high-technology matters involving network security, wireless communications, virtualization and cloud computing, streaming and broadcast media, semiconductors, consumer electronics, medical devices, and testing circuitry. Drawing on his background in electrical engineering, David works closely with clients to translate complex technical concepts into strategic litigation positions across parallel proceedings.

Experience

David supports clients through all stages of patent litigation, including technical analysis, discovery, motion practice, and coordination of district court and PTAB strategies. His recent experience includes matters involving advanced electronics, software platforms, and emerging energy technologies. Representative matters include:

  • Representing Samsung in multiple district court patent litigation matters and inter partes review proceedings involving consumer electronics and semiconductor technologies, including coordination of parallel PTAB and litigation strategy.
  • Supporting patent litigation for a global technology company involving video and broadcast technologies, including discovery, subpoena practice, and technical analysis.
  • Assisting in patent litigation involving energy-storage and clean-technology systems, including development of technical positions and case strategy.
  • Supporting arbitration and commercial dispute matters involving technology agreements and licensing issues.
  • Assisting in patent litigation involving advanced media delivery and networking technologies in federal district court.
  • Supporting intellectual property counseling and clearance matters involving software and electronics technologies.

PRO BONO

David is committed to pro bono matters, including representing tenants and a tenant organization in alleging harassment and discrimination against their landlords, a Guatemalan refugee in obtaining asylum, and assisting transgender individuals in changing their names.

Prior to joining Goodwin, David was an associate at Ropes & Gray.

During law school, he was an editor of the Washington University Law Review. David also served as a clinical law student at the Intellectual Property Clinic at Washington University in St. Louis School of Law.
