Rebecca Tarneja is a Counsel in Goodwin’s Complex Litigation & Dispute Resolution department. Rebecca handles a broad range of complex commercial litigation matters, including class action and multidistrict litigations; cyber/data privacy litigation; consumer protection actions; unfair business practices and false advertising actions; business tort actions; and commercial contract disputes. Her practice spans commercial, statutory, and constitutional issues across diverse industries. She has significant experience litigating high-stakes cases in state and federal courts across the country.

Rebecca also regularly advises clients on litigation avoidance and risk management practices, including contract provisions, online terms of service, consumer protection concerns, and data privacy practices.

Representative Matters

  • Defending major technology and other companies against cutting-edge commercial and class action litigation and arbitration, including alleged violations of privacy laws, antitrust statutes, the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), and various consumer protection laws
  • Representing and advising technology, social media, and retail companies on topics including Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, wiretapping (e.g., session replay, chatbot, pixel, and trap and trace issues), data breach, consumer protection, and enforcement of online terms of service
  • Representing companies in trial and appellate litigation raising novel issues of state and federal law, including statutory and constitutional law and alleged tort violations
  • Defending and bringing affirmative disputes alleging state and federal claims on behalf of companies in industries ranging from technology, financial, data and cryptocurrency to consumer products, retail, healthcare, education, and sports and entertainment
  • Defending companies in bet-the-company litigations and novel challenges to companies and organizations’ business models
  • Defending high-profile cases challenging the NCAA’s and conferences’ rules and regulations governing collegiate athletics
  • Representing companies in high-value disputes with insurance carriers, including in connection with lawsuits and investigations arising from alleged data security and privacy issues
  • Defending companies and investment funds in arbitrations and litigations, including cryptocurrency, healthcare, technology, and diversified investment funds
  • Defending pharmaceutical patent and antitrust cases, including cases alleging claims under the Hatch-Waxman Act and Sherman Act
  • Engaging in high-impact pro bono litigation, including high-profile actions securing protections for immigrants’ rights, voting rights, and women’s rights
