Rick Wyner is a retired partner in Goodwin’s Products Litigation and Counseling practice and also a member of the firm’s Securities Litigation and Appellate Litigation practices. Mr. Wyner focused on mass tort and complex business litigation, including class actions, and frequently represented clients involved in areas including products liability, insurance law, bankruptcy, and statutory and common law fraud claims. He represented clients in federal and state courts across the country and in commercial arbitration proceedings. Mr. Wyner also regularly provided advice with respect to corporate transactions involving entities with potential mass tort liabilities.


Examples of Mr. Wyner’s work include representations on behalf of:

  • A manufacturing company and its affiliates with respect to numerous issues in mass tort litigation, including trial and appellate court proceedings, jurisdictional issues, derivative liability claims, and corporate transactions
  • Industrial corporations in connection with the bankruptcy filings of subsidiaries or other affiliates facing mass tort claims
  • A group of mass tort defendants in numerous federal, state, and bankruptcy court proceedings arising from the impact on pending multi-party settlement agreements of co-defendant bankruptcies
  • Financial services companies in federal and state trial and appellate court proceedings asserting statutory and common law claims arising from mortgage loans and mortgage-backed securities
  • A major insurance company and its affiliates in lawsuits and arbitration proceedings arising from the sale and purchase of various lines of business
  • A leading insurance company in putative class action lawsuits brought on behalf of present or former policyholders and beneficiaries

Professional Experience

Mr. Wyner was a partner at Shea & Gardner prior to its combination with Goodwin in 2004. At Shea & Gardner, Mr. Wyner focused on complex Business Litigation in federal and state courts across the country. From 1991 through 1992, Mr. Wyner served as a Deputy General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Education.
