Goodwin Procter Active in the US Pipe Market During the First Half of 2009

BOSTON, July 27, 2009 – Goodwin Procter achieved the 3rd place ranking for Placement Agent Counsel, according to Sagient Research Systems’ six-month year-to-date rankings of the U.S. Private Investments in Public Equity (PIPE) market share.  In addition, the firm ranked as 4th most active investor counsel and 7th most active issuer counsel.  In all, Goodwin Procter has advised 14 PIPE transactions totaling more than $320 million dollars in 2009 to date.

Goodwin Procter will be hosting a PIPEs breakfast on August 11 in its Silicon Valley office.  This program for clients will focus on the different types of transactions included under the alternative financing umbrella and the evolving trends in this dynamic market.  As the credit markets remain tight and the public markets volatile, investors have been actively exploring opportunities to capitalize on this financing environment, resulting in an increased interest in PIPEs.

Attorneys in Goodwin Procter’s Securities & Corporate Finance, Technology Companies and Private Equity groups actively represent a variety of issuers, investors and placement agents in PIPE transactions and provide ongoing advice to clients as they access the capital markets to expand business, provide owner liquidity and achieve long-term objectives.  Industries represented include cleantech, life sciences and technology, among others.  In this alternative financing market, Goodwin Procter has represented issuers, investors and agents in more than 55 PIPEs, Registered Directs and follow-on public offering and ATM transactions year to date.
