Goodwin Partners With The Legal Aid Society on Historic Title VII Ruling by Second Circuit

Goodwin advised The Legal Aid Society on its successful amicus brief in which the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled en banc, in Zarda v. Altitude Express, Inc., that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. As a result of Legal Aid’s brief, the Second Circuit had a compelling combination of sociological data and legal analysis to assist with its review of this landmark case.

The Legal Aid Society is a private, not-for-profit legal services organization dedicated to providing quality legal representation to low-income New Yorkers. It is dedicated to one simple but powerful belief: that no New Yorker should be denied access to justice because of poverty.

The Goodwin team was led by partner Fred Rein and included Tiffany Mahmoo.
