Samantha Lake Coghlan Recognized by IFLR1000’s Women Leaders 2021

Goodwin partner and London co-chair Samantha Lake Coghlan has been named to IFLR1000’s Women Leaders 2021. Those selected for this honor by IFLR1000 are among “the leading female transactional lawyers in the world,” have “impressive track records,” and “are consistently recommended by clients and peers for the quality of their advice and service.”

Lake Coghlan joined the London office of Goodwin at the beginning of 2012 to help launch the firm’s growth in Europe. Since that time, the size of the London office, which she now co-chairs, has increased to over 150 lawyers, including a 329% headcount growth in the past 5 years, making Goodwin the fastest growing US law firm in London. Alongside this, revenues have soared, with 2020 seeing a 33% year on year uptick in UK turnover to $99 million.

Lake Coghlan is a partner in the firm’s Real Estate Industry group, where she advises on the structuring, establishment, operation and restructuring of real estate private investment funds and other structured real estate investment vehicles. She regularly advises key players in the industry including Ares, NREP, Hines, Nuveen, Kennedy Wilson and Cromwell.

Lake Coghlan has been an integral part of growing Goodwin’s European Real Estate Funds practice, which represents over 50 of the top 100 largest private equity real estate firms in fund formation and transactions according to PERE’s 100 signature rankings for 2020. She is also a driving force behind Goodwin’s pioneering PropTech practice, a first of its kind practice focused on supporting the intersection of real estate and technology.

These accomplishments have resulted in Lake Coghlan being routinely honored as a leading lawyer by market commentators such as Chambers UK, which called her a “very strong negotiator from a legal and commercial perspective” who is “really easy to work with” and Legal 500 in which she is described as “one of the pre-eminent lawyers in the real estate funds space” with “an unparalleled understanding of the practice area and is always cognizant of her client’s commercial needs.”

Committed to gender equity, Lake Coghlan serves as Co-Chair of the London chapter of Women@Goodwin, working to develop, advance and retain female lawyers at every level of the firm. She is also a committee member of the Advisory Board of WILEF (Women in Law Empowerment Forum), which provides community, education and networking opportunities for women in the legal profession.

IFLR1000’s Women Leaders were selected from a research process that includes evaluation of thousands of submissions, survey data of thousands of client referees and peers, and hundreds of in-depth interviews.
