Goodwin Recognized by Leadership Council on Legal Diversity as Compass Award Winner

Professionals

Global law firm Goodwin today announced that it has been named a Compass Award winner by the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD), recognizing the firm’s strong commitment to building a more diverse organization and a more inclusive legal profession.

LCLD is one of the nation’s leading organizations promoting diversity. It consists of more than 350 corporate chief legal officers and law firm managing partners who have dedicated themselves to creating a truly diverse U.S. legal profession.

The Compass Award recognizes those individuals and organizations that fulfill all of the following requirements in a single calendar year:

  • Attendance at the 2020 LCLD Annual Membership Meeting or a 2021 Leadership Summit, or submission of a Leader’s Pledge.
  • Participation in the LCLD Fellows and Pathfinder Programs.
  • Participation in an LCLD Pipeline program (the 1L Scholars program or the Success in Law School Mentoring Program).

Last month, LCLD’s Board of Directors announced a requirement for members to create a public pledge detailing actions they will take to advance diverse talent. Goodwin Chairman Rob Insolia pledged the following:

Personal Commitment

  • Sponsor the development and advancement of three non-equity partners of color over the next two years.
  • Lead a sponsorship initiative for non-equity partners that will pair members of the firm’s Executive Committee and Allocations Committee with diverse non-equity partners — with more than 40 pairs working together on career goals over the next two years.
  • Co-lead, with the firm’s Managing Partner, the firm’s Black Antiracism Task Force and ensure that it makes measurable progress against the seven pillars of its mission statement over the next two years.
  • Support his own learning and growth by engaging with an external expert on race in the workplace.

Organizational Commitment

In 2019, Goodwin set two bold, public, and measurable diversity, equity, and inclusion goals that will help accelerate the pace of change within the firm. Specifically, Goodwin has committed that by 2025:

  1. The diversity of (i) Goodwin’s senior associate population, and (ii) its population of partners and equity partners elevated in the preceding five years, will match or exceed its entry-level associate diversity, which is 50% gender diverse, 35% racioethnically diverse, and 10% LGBTQ diverse as of January 2020.
  2. The collective composition of all firm leadership committees will be at least 40% diverse.

Goodwin has also committed to a comprehensive antiracism mission through the firm’s Black Antiracism Task Force.
