Scott Webster, a retired partner in and former Chair of Goodwin’s ERISA & Executive Compensation practice, is recognized as a leading attorney in his field by Chambers USA, where clients note his “tremendous amount of business acumen and spot-on business advice.” He previously was the Boston office leader of the Business Law Department and formerly chaired the firm’s Attorney Review Committee and GLBT Initiative.

With more than 20 years of experience, Mr. Webster represented financial service organizations and other fiduciaries concerning issues arising in connection with the investment of retirement plan assets, including fiduciary, investment and prohibited transaction matters. In addition, he had been extensively involved in establishing and operating collective investment vehicles, including group trusts, VCOCs and REOCs, as well as structuring and developing a variety of new investment products for retirement plans.

He also worked closely with public and private companies, and their investors, in structuring, implementing and administering equity-based compensation, incentive compensation and other employee benefit plans and arrangements, including providing advice with respect to tax, accounting, corporate and securities law concerns that arise in connection with such plans and arrangements. 

Mr. Webster lives in Boston with his husband Peter and their cats Bella and Callahan. He enjoys adventure travel, and his trips have included an excursion to Antarctica, hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, mountain gorilla tracking in Rwanda, and hiking up Nepal’s Khumbu Valley to Everest Base Camp. 

 

Professional Activities

Mr. Webster serves on the Dean’s Alumni Advisory Board for Boston University’s College of Arts & Sciences, is a graduate of the Harvard Business School program on Leading Professional Service Firms and the YWCA’s LeadBoston program, and is a former member of the LeadBoston Advisory Council. Mr. Webster formerly served as co-chair of the Boston Bar Association’s ERISA Committee. Mr. Webster’s pro bono activities have included work for the Point Foundation and the One Fund Boston.
