BOSTON, May 12, 2006 — Goodwin Procter LLP, one of the nation's leading law firms with offices in Boston, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Washington, DC, today announced that senior counsel Stephen J. Pollak was recently honored with the Justice Potter Stewart Award, presented to him by the Council for Court Excellence in Washington, DC.
The award recognizes Pollak's commitment to providing under-served clients with access to legal representation. Judge James Robertson, District Judge on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, who presented the award to Pollak, said, "When you have the opportunity to work with Steve, you find yourself trying to be like him, seriously engaged in the task at hand, without prejudgment or irony...It is that tough-minded combination of passion...and polite but persistent questioning that I think explains Steve's remarkable effectiveness...and why he has been the go-to guy for so many of the important institutions within our community."
Overall, the Justice Potter Stewart Award honors individuals and organizations whose work on behalf of the administration of justice has made a significant contribution to the law, the legal system, the courts or the administrative process in Washington, DC.
Pollak is senior counsel in Goodwin Procter’s Commercial Litigation Practice. Goodwin Procter has a well-developed pro bono program which, in fiscal year 2005, provided more than 47,700 hours of pro bono legal assistance to charitable organizations and individuals who could not otherwise afford legal assistance.
