Goodwin Procter, a national Am Law 50 firm, has been named as a “Best Law Firm for Women” by Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers for the fourth year in a row. The annual list recognizes 50 law firms across the nation whose family-friendly policies and business development initiatives are retaining female attorneys and advancing them into their leadership pipeline.
Goodwin’s work/life and women-friendly policies will be featured in the August/September issue of the magazine, and are among those profiled at www.workingmother.com and www.flextimelawyers.com.
Goodwin actively supports the development and retention of its attorneys through a number of efforts, including its firm-sponsored Women’s Initiative. Goodwin’s Women’s Initiative maximizes networking and career opportunities for women at the firm through programming and support in areas including professional development, training, career growth, business development and work/life effectiveness.
“We’re extremely honored to be recognized as one of the best law firms for women by Working Mother,” said Regina M. Pisa, Chairman of Goodwin Procter. “Receiving this award for the fourth consecutive year is a testament to the hard work and vision of so many at the firm and to the progress we have made through the efforts of our Women’s Initiative.” Pisa broke new ground in the legal industry when she became the first female chairman and managing partner of an Am Law 100 law firm in 1998.
“The Best 50 Law Firms for Women have created the ultimate benchmark in the profession. They not only offer excellent flexibility and advancement policies to retain and grow their female talent, they fight for issues crucial to women worldwide through their powerful pro bono programs,” said Carol Evans, president of Working Mother Media. “Last year, 69% of the Best Law Firms had one or more women in their top ten rainmakers; this year, the number has gone up to 78%, a testament to the firms’ management and those who are rising through the ranks.”
All law firms with more than 50 attorneys were eligible to submit responses to detailed questions on the issues that are most important to the retention and promotion of female lawyers. The 50 winning firms were selected based on factors that included their workforce profile, family-friendly benefits and policies, flexibility, leadership, compensation, and advancement and retention of women.
