Goodwin is saddened to announce the death of its former partner and chairman A. Jeffrey Dando. Jeff, who passed away on July 18, 2021 at 82, practiced at the firm for more than 30 years.
A renowned real estate lawyer, Jeff played a central role in shaping the firm’s evolution. He joined Goodwin in 1968 and helped build the firm’s real estate practice into the powerhouse it is today. His development work still dots the landscape throughout Boston and Cambridge and across the region’s Route 128 and I-495 tech corridors.
Jeff served as Goodwin’s Hiring Partner for many years and, with an impeccable eye for talent, recruited countless lawyers, many of whom still help lead the firm today. As Chairman, he instituted the firm’s formalized marketing and lawyer training and development functions, and brought the firm beyond Boston and into Washington, D.C. and New York.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Jeff joined Goodwin several years after earning his undergraduate and law degrees at Cornell. He was named partner in 1973 and retired in 1998.
Bright, quick-witted, erudite, yet self-effacing, Jeff resolved seemingly unsolvable issues with aplomb and in a way that left all involved feeling victorious. He was admired and respected by those he hired, led, advised, and befriended. Jeff was a true original, and we will miss him.
