Fox Corp (FOXA.O) and Fox News on Tuesday settled a defamation lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million, averting a trial putting one of the world's top media companies in the crosshairs over its coverage of false vote-rigging claims in the 2020 U.S. election. Complex Litigation & Dispute Resolution partner Jonathan Shapiro shares his reaction to Fox's 'whopping,' 'expensive' settlement with Dominion. "I think just as this is a fabulous result for Dominion, out of the park, it's an excellent rational result for Fox," said Shapiro to Reuters. "It's breathtakingly expensive, but the way to think about a settlement, whether a settlement makes sense, is not to limit your analysis to the four corners of the lawsuit that's before the court. It's to think about the impact of the lawsuit, the impact of the dispute on the organization."
