Goodwin Leads League Tables by Deal Count (The American Lawyer)

Global M&A hit a three-year low in the first half of 2023, with $1.3 trillion in deals announced in the first six months of the year, a 37% decline year-over-year. The number of deals done, roughly 27,300 in total, saw a 9% decline year-over-year. But while the market overall is down, some Big Law firms, especially in New York, picked up market share and rise up the league tables released by Refinitiv. Goodwin, as it has for several years running now, led all firms in the number of principal deals, clocking in with 396 (out of 400 total deals touched). “At Goodwin, we are privileged to partner with clients across the key industries driving the global economy,” Goodwin chair Rob Insolia said in an email to The American Lawyer. “We are thankful for our clients’ partnership, and we thank our people — our lawyers and business professionals — for the collaborative, business-oriented approach they bring to every client interaction.”
