Big Law Looks to Cash in on Crypto Push (Law.com)

As the cryptocurrency markets grow, so does the industry’s demand for sophisticated legal counsel. Many Big Law firms are looking to cash in on the rush, finding that the crypto industry can boost nearly every practice, from M&A deals and IPOs to regulatory and litigation work. Karen Ubell, co-chair of the Digital Currency and Blockchain practice at Goodwin, has been involved in the crypto space since 2013, with the firm creating a formal practice in 2015. “We expect to see a lot more people being involved in this part of the industry and servicing clients that are exploring this technology,” she said. Michael Patrone, partner in Goodwin’s Technology, Life Sciences, Private Equity and Public M&A practices, said he only expects public M&A in crypto, whether traditional or SPAC merger, to pick up as more regulatory clarity eliminates risk. “We think there will be more M&A.”
