Megan Gustafson is counsel in the Goodwin’s Business Law department and a member of the Technology and Life Sciences group. Dr. Gustafson advises companies on patent portfolio development and strategy. She also advises investors on intellectual property issues relating to public and private financing and other transactions. Dr. Gustafson practices primarily in the life sciences, with a focus on biotechnology.

Dr. Gustafson has more than fifteen years of experience assisting clients in developing patent strategy, including patent portfolio development and intellectual property landscape analysis. Dr. Gustafson has experience advising investors on intellectual property issues relating to public and private financing and other transactions. She has assisted clients in obtaining patent protection for therapeutic antibodies, vaccines, pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, fluorescence imaging technologies, protein and nucleic acid diagnostics, DNA amplification and sequencing technologies, stem cell technologies (including iPSCs and organoids), and cellular grafts. Her representative clients include Dragonfly Therapeutics, Palleon Pharmaceuticals, NeuroDerm, Noema Pharma, Tenpoint Therapeutics, and LumiraDx.

Dr. Gustafson is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association.
Professional Experience
Dr. Gustafson has practiced law in Massachusetts and Tennessee. Prior to joining Goodwin, Dr. Gustafson was a technology specialist in the Boston office of K&L Gates. Prior to her legal career, Dr. Gustafson earned her doctorate at MIT in the laboratory of Nobel laureate Bob Horvitz, where she studied serotonin and neuropeptide signaling.
