Tara Thigpen

Tara Thigpen is an associate in Goodwin’s Intellectual Property Litigation group who focuses her practice across a wide variety of industries including life sciences and technology companies. Tara represents companies in complex disputes through all phases of litigation, including pre-suit investigations, discovery, claim construction, motion practice, trial, post-trial proceedings, mediations, and arbitrations. Tara is an editor of Goodwin’s Big Molecule Watch, which provides updates and analyses on regulatory issues, litigation, legislation, and other news in the ever-developing world of biosimilars.

Tara represents life sciences and technology companies in complex intellectual property disputes across US district courts and arbitration forums. Her work spans patent litigation, trade secret disputes, trademark matters, and licensing-related arbitrations, with particular experience supporting pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients through trial and post-trial proceedings. Some recent engagements include:

• Representing Callan Marine, Ltd., in a trade secret litigation in the District of Massachusetts
• Representing Trusted Inc. in trademark infringement disputes in the Southern District of Ohio and the Western District of New York
• Representing a pharmaceutical company in a patent infringement litigation in the District of Massachusetts through jury trial, resulting in a favorable jury verdict
• Representing a biotechnology company in an arbitration proceeding arising from intellectual property license and commercial agreement disputes
• Representing several pharmaceutical companies in BPCIA patent dance proceedings
• Representing a software company in patent infringement and trade secret litigation
• Zealand Pharma — Trade Secret Litigation (D. Mass.): Representing Zealand Pharma A/S and Zealand Pharma U.S. Inc. in trade secret litigation involving pharmaceutical technology and confidential business information
• Pharmaceutical Company — Patent Litigation (Jury Trial): Represented a pharmaceutical company through jury trial in patent infringement litigation, securing a favorable verdict
• United Therapeutics — Hatch-Waxman Litigation: Represented a pharmaceutical company in Hatch-Waxman patent litigation involving respiratory therapies through district court proceedings
• Biotechnology Company — Licensing Arbitration: Represented a biotechnology company in arbitration arising from intellectual property license and commercial agreement disputes
• BPCIA Proceedings: Represented multiple pharmaceutical companies in biologics patent disputes, including work supporting BPCIA “patent dance” proceedings
• Technology and Software Clients — Patent and Trade Secret Litigation: Represented technology companies in patent infringement and trade secret disputes involving software platforms and data-driven products
• Trademark and Trade Secret Litigation: Represented clients in trademark infringement disputes in federal courts and trade secret litigation in the District of Massachusetts

Prior to joining Goodwin, Tara was an associate in the Boston office of Proskauer Rose LLP and an associate in the New York office of Skadden, Arps, Slate Meagher & Flom LLP.

Prior to law school, Tara worked in compliance for biopharmaceutical company.
