Goodwin Procter Welcomes Another Partner in Silicon Valley

Firm’s Growth of National Tech and Venture Capital Practice Continues

BOSTON, May 18, 2010 – Goodwin Procter announced today its continued expansion of the firm’s Technology Companies practice with the addition of Caine Moss as a partner in its Silicon Valley office.  Moss represents software, telecommunications, life sciences and Internet companies at all stages of growth.  He joins the firm from Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.

“Caine’s expertise in corporate finance and securities is a natural fit for Goodwin Procter as we continue to grow our corporate practice in Northern California,” said Kevin M. Dennis, chair of the firm’s Silicon Valley office.

Moss specializes in a wide range of corporate finance, securities and governance law.  He counsels venture capital firms and technology companies in a broad scope of transactions, including public and private mergers and acquisitions, venture financings and joint ventures.  In addition, his practice focuses on the representation of issuers and investment banks in public equity offerings.

“Caine’s experience aligns perfectly with the way in which we approach serving our clients – through all stages of growth,” said John J. Egan, co-chair of Goodwin Procter’s Technology Companies Practice.

Goodwin Procter was ranked the 5th most active law firm in the U.S. for private equity and venture capital transactions by Dow Jones Private Equity Analyst, based on volume of deals closed in 2009.  Today, with 160+ attorneys within its technology companies group, Goodwin Procter has one of the largest tech and life sciences practices in the country, which is supported by significant IP, tax and private investment funds groups, as well as its nationally-recognized growth equity and capital markets teams.

The firm has grown significantly in these key practices recently, including the addition of venture capital and technology partners Anthony J. McCusker, Craig M. Schmitz and James D. Riley, Jr. in Silicon Valley.

Goodwin Procter, with more than 100 attorneys in California, first established its West Coast presence in 2006, opening offices in Los Angeles and San Francisco.  It expanded in 2007 with offices in San Diego and Silicon Valley.  “Our California offices are one of the primary strategic pillars of the firm and we are delighted to welcome this highly skilled attorney,” said Regina M. Pisa, chairman and managing partner of Goodwin Procter.

Admitted to practice in California, Moss earned his B.A. from Stanford University and his J.D. from Harvard Law School.  He is a frequent speaker on issues related to securities law and corporate governance and has published articles on venture capital.
