Dr. Kaneko is a senior associate and patent attorney in the firm’s Life Sciences Intellectual Property practice. Dr. Kaneko has a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry and specializes in global IP strategy, patent prosecution, patent counseling, and portfolio management. She also has extensive experience in IP diligence related to various business transactions including venture capital financing, mergers and acquisitions, and initial public offerings. Dr. Kaneko advises private and public companies of various sizes as well as venture capital firms and investment banks across the life sciences industry. She serves in the Leadership Committee of the firm’s Climate Tech Accelerator. She joined Goodwin in 2015.

Experience

Dr. Kaneko has extensive experience in the fields of small molecule therapeutics, drug formulations, drug delivery, polymer and material sciences, biologics, and climate technology. 

Dr. Kaneko also devotes a significant portion of her practice to pro bono matters including assistance of asylum applications and immigration law research. She was on Massachusetts Pro Bono Honor Roll in 2022.  

Professional Experience

Prior to joining Goodwin, Dr. Kaneko conducted doctoral research focused on the total synthesis of diazofluorene antitumor antibiotics and development of novel glycosylation methodology. Dr. Kaneko has presented her work at international conferences and authored scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals including Journal of American Chemical Society, Organic Letters, and Tetrahedron Letters. Dr. Kaneko also served as a technology commercialization intern at the Office of Cooperative Research at Yale University.
