• In 2016, almost 33 percent of public colleges and universities had women presidents, compared to 27.3 percent of private nonprofits. Community colleges were the most likely to have women presidents, with about 36 percent headed by women.
• Women were more likely to lead public institutions than private institutions. They were more likely than men to lead public special focus institutions.
• The percentage of minority college presidents has slowly increased over the last 30 years. Women of color, however, hold only 5% of the positions.
• In 2016, college presidents spent most of their time on financial management and fundraising.
