The breathtaking implosion and bankruptcy of cryptocurrency exchange FTX and the subsequent arrest of its founder showered negative attention on the largely unregulated digital asset space in 2022, prompting legal experts to forecast that more enforcement actions and bankruptcies would hit the crypto industry in 2023. Jonathan Hecht, who joined the Complex Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice as a partner in October after a decade as a senior SEC enforcement official, told Law360 that the 2022 expansion of the SEC's crypto assets and cyber enforcement unit is "a pretty good harbinger of things to come."
