ESG Outlook Spring-Summer 2026: Practitioner Insight (Practical Law)

In November 2025, Practical Law spoke with ESG practitioners at a time of continued regulatory uncertainty, with key measures including the EU’s Omnibus I proposal, SFDR 2.0, the UK Sustainability Reporting Standards (UK SRS), and California’s climate disclosure rules still evolving. Chris Ormond and Andrew Henderson at Goodwin noted that the “European Parliament Rapporteur's April 2026 draft has tightened the requirements for inclusion of financial products in the SFDR categories.” They also highlighted the lack of transitional provisions for legacy funds, explaining that “product manufacturers, including investment managers, will need to consider how the investment strategies and composition of their existing and forthcoming products align with SFDR2.” Separately, Estelle Candau and Ariel White-Tsimikalis at Goodwin noted that “the government has usefully clarified that UK SRS S2 qualifies as a national reporting framework for the purposes of the Companies Act,” meaning companies can avoid duplicative climate disclosures where cross-referencing requirements are met.
