Goodwin Procter Advises SpeedCast in Buyout of Elektrikom Satellite Services

Goodwin Procter recently advised SpeedCast Ltd., a leading Hong Kong-based global network and satellite communications service provider, in its acquisition of Elektrikom Satellite Services, a maritime telecommunications company based in the Netherlands. The transaction was completed with the support of SpeedCast’s majority shareholder, TA Associates, and follows SpeedCast's acquisition of Australian Satellite Communications in late 2012.

Founded in 1985, Elektrikom is headquartered in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The company focuses on the high-end segments of the maritime market, including the oil & gas and offshore segments, and delivers custom satellite communications solutions to its customers. Elektrikom operates six teleports and supplies network services to more than 250 vessels in the maritime industry.

SpeedCast is a leading global provider of network and satellite communications solutions and offers high-quality managed network services in over 30 countries throughout Asia, the Middle East and Africa. With 10 international sales and support offices and 18 teleports, the company’s unique infrastructure is well suited to service corporate and carriers’ requirements globally.

Goodwin Procter previously represented TA Associates in its acquisition of SpeedCast in September 2012.

The Goodwin team advising SpeedCast was led by Hong Kong-based partner Yash Rana and included support from partner Howard Cubell and associate Liam Timoney.
