Goodwin Adds to Growing California Litigation and Cannabis Practices with Partner Jennifer Fisher in San Francisco

Global law firm Goodwin announced today that Jennifer Fisher joined the firm’s Litigation and Cannabis practices as partner in the San Francisco office.

Fisher’s practice is focused on litigation, including commercial litigation and white collar defense, and cannabis law. She has represented corporations and individuals involved in a broad range of complex and high stakes civil and criminal litigation, legislative and administrative proceedings. She regularly advises cannabis operators, ancillary businesses and investors on regulatory compliance, licensing and disclosure obligations. Fisher also represents cannabis companies in litigation.

“As funds continue to pour into the fast-evolving cannabis industry, we are seeing an increasing need among cannabis companies and their investors for corporate, financing, regulatory and litigation counsel,” said Brett Schuman, chair of Goodwin’s San Francisco Office and co-chair of the firm’s Cannabis practice. “I’ve worked across the table from Jen and know her to be one of the best lawyers in the cannabis business, with a specialized skillset that will give a significant advantage in serving our growing client base in this field.”

Fisher is a member of the American Bar Association, Bar Association of San Francisco, and Women’s White Collar Defense Association. She is also active in the Women Leaders in Cannabis, which she co-founded. Fisher has been recognized for outstanding pro bono service by the United States District Court for the Northern District of California and the Bar Association of San Francisco Volunteer Legal Services Program.

Fisher received her J.D. and B.A. from Boston College. She is licensed to practice in California and is admitted to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, U.S. District Court for the Northern, Eastern, Southern and Central Districts of California.

Goodwin’s litigation practice has developed a reputation in California as the go-to counsel for matters involving M&A and post-closing disputes; intellectual property, commercial and trade secrets disputes for technology and private equity companies and investors; securities class action litigation and SEC investigations; and white collar defense and government investigations.

Since launching in 2016, Goodwin’s Cannabis practice has become a national leader in this sector. Comprised of a cross-disciplinary group of nearly 100 lawyers, Goodwin’s Cannabis practice covers the full spectrum of legal services needed by industry participants, including finding and developing investment opportunities, obtaining funding, structuring of transactions, M&A, protection of intellectual property, handling of government and regulatory investigations, advising clients on risks arising under federal law, and all forms of litigation, all subject to the firm’s obligations under federal law.
