Goodwin Procter Sponsors ACG Boston Growth Conference 2009

Growth Equity Deals Increasingly Favored in Private Equity Sector

BOSTON, June 12, 2009 – Growth equity deals are enjoying an uptick in popularity as company owners seek to take their firms to the next level, according to David J. Powers, partner in Goodwin Procter’s Private Equity Group.  Powers spoke on the growth equity panel at the ACG Growth Conference, where he noted that large buyout firms have turned to minority stakes and other growth equity transactions during the current credit crunch.

Goodwin Procter was the exclusive platinum sponsor of ACG Boston’s 2009 Growth Conference, the largest M&A conference on the East Coast, recently held in Boston.  Nearly 800 attendees – including national private equity firms, corporate officers, investment bankers, intermediaries and other professionals involved in dealmaking, M&A and growth transactions – participated in the event.

John LeClaire, chair of Goodwin Procter’s Private Equity Group, introduced the lunchtime keynote speaker, David Gergen, a senior political analyst at CNN.  In addition to a welcome address delivered by keynote speaker William F. Achtmeyer, chairman and managing partner of The Parthenon Group, the conference also featured a panel on specialty investing.

Goodwin Procter has a team of over 100 attorneys focused on later-stage buyouts, recapitalizations and portfolio company transactions, along with 160 lawyers who handle early-stage, venture and technology deals.  It is one of the few firms in the country that can cover the full spectrum of the private equity asset class – fund formation, venture financing, junior and senior debt, buyouts, going privates, recapitalizations, exits, venture-backed IPOs and other public securities offerings.  Goodwin Procter was named “Law Firm of the Year” by Buyouts Magazine in 2009 and is ranked by Chambers USA as one of the elite private equity and venture capital practices in the United States.
