Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan Chase recently announced the next step in their partnership on U.S. employee healthcare with the appointment of Dr. Atul Gawande as its Chief Executive Officer. The new company will operate in Boston as an independent entity that is free from profit-making incentives and constraints.
Dr. Gawande is a globally renowned surgeon, writer and public health innovator. We are also incredibly proud to count him as a Goodwin pro bono client. For this representation, the Goodwin team was led by partners Stuart Cable and Sarah Solomon, with significant contributions from partners Sue Abbott, Ed Amer and Brad Smith.
To quote Dr. Gawande:
“This new health care organization represents one of the most promising opportunities to accelerate improvement of U.S. health care delivery. The work will be difficult and take time, but it must be done. And we will have the opportunity to do it together, with many exceptional organizations, including Ariadne Labs. My vision is to develop high-impact collaborations across the health care sector.”
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Gawande on this appointment and in wishing him every success with this important work.
