Global law firm Goodwin announced today that partner Matt Kanny has joined the firm’s Complex Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice, resident in the Santa Monica office. Kanny will co-lead, with partner Laura Stoll, Goodwin’s litigation practice in Southern California.

“Client demand for our litigation and dispute resolution expertise – tied to our key industries of focus in technology, life sciences and healthcare, real estate, private equity and financial services – is at an all-time high in California,” said Joanne Gray, chair of Goodwin’s Litigation department. “Matt is a top-tier litigator with a practice that perfectly aligns with our clients’ needs at the intersection of capital and innovation. We are thrilled to welcome him to the firm and look forward to his leadership in continuing to build on the strength of our litigation bench in California.”

Kanny has extensive experience in complex commercial and business litigation, class action defense, antitrust and trade regulation, unfair competition and false advertising matters as well as entertainment litigation. He represents clients in U.S. federal and state courts and in arbitration proceedings across the country. In addition, Kanny provides strategic advice to clients on a range of regulatory matters and represents clients in enforcement actions involving district attorneys, attorneys general and the Department of Justice. His clients include leading companies across the healthcare, technology, real estate, retail, and entertainment industries.

Prior to joining Goodwin, Kanny was a partner at a national law firm where he previously served as chair of the firm’s national litigation and trial practice, as a member of the firm’s executive and compensation committees, and as chair of the firm’s strategic growth committee.

Earlier this year, Goodwin’s California litigation team welcomed partner Arman Oruc to the Antitrust and Competition practice in Los Angeles.
