Brett Schuman Named to Daily Journal’s Top IP Lawyers 2023

Goodwin partners Brett Schuman have once again been named to Daily Journal’s Top Intellectual Property Lawyers for 2023. The annual award recognizes the standout intellectual property lawyers in California based on their career accomplishments and major achievements in intellectual property law over the past year.

Schuman is co-chair of Goodwin’s Intellectual Property group, former chair of the firm’s San Francisco office, and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. His expertise in patent and other IP litigation has made him a highly sought-after litigator in federal and state courts across the country, serving as lead partner and lead trial counsel in numerous high-stakes patent infringement, copyright infringement, trademark infringement, and trade secret litigation matters. Schuman also co-founded and co-chairs Goodwin’s Cannabis practice, advising US and international businesses on complex IP, regulatory, and other issues in the rapidly expanding industry.

This is the third consecutive year that Schuman has been recognized as a Top IP Lawyer by Daily Journal. Previously, he was named Litigator of the Week by The American Lawyer for his work with Last Prisoner Project, as he secured compassionate release of an inmate serving a life sentence for a non-violent cannabis-related offense. Schuman has also been recognized for excellence by The Legal 500 United States, National Law Journal, and IAM Patent 1000.

Among numerous other honors throughout his career, he has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America Best Lawyers 2022-2023 for his work in IP Litigation and Patent and Trade Secrets Law Litigation and has been named an IP Vanguard by the California State Bar. He was recognized by Chambers USA and Chambers Global 2021 and 2022 in Intellectual Property: Patent, by Benchmark Litigation as a 2021-2023 Litigation Star in California for his work in Intellectual Property, and by the IAM Global Leaders Guide and IAM Patent 1000 as a top IP litigator and trailblazer.
