Goodwin Procter Named "Law Firm of the Year (Fund Formation)" in 2009 Global Private Equity Real Estate Awards

BOSTON, March 15, 2010 – Goodwin Procter has been honored as “Law Firm of the Year (Fund Formation)” in the North America category by Private Equity Real Estate magazine (PERE) for the third consecutive year.  PERE, a PEI Media publication, covers the international private equity real estate community and its annual Global Awards are the only industry awards voted on by industry professionals.

Goodwin Procter is a long-standing powerhouse in the real estate, REITs and real estate capital markets industry. The firm’s attorneys helped draft the Real Estate Investment Trust Act of 1960 and since then the firm has been a leader in REIT and M&A transactions. In recent years, its attorneys have assisted clients in transactions and restructurings, investments, and public and private capital raises totaling in excess of $250 billion.

The firm’s Real Estate Fund Formation Practice, led by David Watson in Boston and Robert Insolia in New York, is one of the largest in the nation, with attorneys on both coasts. The team works closely with other attorneys in the firm’s nationally recognized Real Estate, REITs & Real Estate Capital Markets Group, which enables its fund formation attorneys to stay on top of market developments in fund formation and in the real estate market generally. The firm recently collaborated with industry leaders to co-sponsor the second annual International Real Estate Capital Markets Conference.

Goodwin Procter’s clients include more than 75 real estate investment managers raising and deploying capital, ranging from first time fund sponsors to established industry leaders, as well as public REITs, insurance companies and investment banks involved in the real estate investment management business. The group also works with hedge fund and private equity fund managers who are expanding to include real estate as an investment focus. Over the past year, Goodwin Procter has helped real estate fund sponsor clients develop and launch initial public offerings and other strategic recapitalizations to access capital efficiently and effectively.
