Chief Justice John Roberts ordered an investigation Tuesday into the leak of a draft Supreme Court opinion overturning Roe v. Wade, the 1973 ruling recognizing abortion rights for women, as the breach sent tremors through the court, Congress, the White House and state capitals. “There definitely is an iterative process, especially between justices in the majority and the dissent,” said William Jay, an Appellate and Supreme Court Litigation partner at Goodwin who clerked for the late Justice Antonin Scalia. “And justices in the majority also have to agree among themselves what they want to say.
