Goodwin’s Asia Practice Ranked by Chambers and Legal 500 2022

Goodwin was recognized for excellence in the 2022 rankings from Chambers Asia-Pacific, Chambers Greater China Region and The Legal 500 Asia Pacific. Altogether, Goodwin received 8 practice rankings across geographies including Asia-Pacific, China and India, and several Goodwin partners were named as leading individuals.

Goodwin’s Private Equity team was praised in Legal 500 for being “extremely attentive and responsive,” and for taking “a very commercial approach towards investments.” Chambers quoted a client who was “impressed by Goodwin’s quality of work,” saying that “their global footprint is strong,” while Legal 500 quoted another client who stated that “their competence across multiple jurisdictions in Asia sets them apart.”

Goodwin’s Private Investment Funds team was noted in Chambers as being “very strong in fund formation and cross-border matters.” Legal 500 added that with Goodwin “you get ‘big firm’ expertise and experience, with ‘small firm’ service, i.e. the best of both worlds.”

Among the lawyers ranked in Chambers, Hong Kong office chair Yash Rana was recognized for both Private Equity: Buyouts & Venture Capital Investment (China) and Corporate M&A (India - International Firms).

Partner Douglas Freeman was recognized for Private Equity: Buyouts & Venture Capital Investment (China), with Chambers noting his ability to “understand nuances of cross-border transactions, including the culture.”

Partner Victor Chen was ranked for Private Equity: Buyouts & Venture Capital Investment (China), and was noted for his experience in advising on “transactions in the retail, entertainment and technology sectors.”

Partner Wendy Pan was ranked for Life Sciences (China) due to her “great expertise and experience in the area” and success as “a great negotiator.”

Partner Gregory Barclay was ranked for Investment Funds (China), where he was commended for being "very responsive" and “readily available.” He was also mentioned in Legal 500, “His experience in the market is apparent in his advice, which is always bespoke and appropriate.”
