Scott Bluni is an experienced intellectual property attorney focused on counseling clients in patent-related matters such as strategic portfolio development, infringement avoidance, due diligence, enforcement, licensing, and other technology transactions. Dr. Bluni leverages his experiences as a former patent examiner and chief intellectual property counsel at a large, international medtech corporation to bring a pragmatic, solution-based approach to his practice.

Experience

Dr. Bluni has extensive experience representing medtech and other life science clients, from emerging start-ups to multibillion-dollar corporations. He has counseled innovators and senior business management focused on developing medical technologies such as drug eluting devices, drug pumps, microbial detection, chromatography and spectrometry, heart valves and other cardiovascular implants, tissue ablation, neurostimulation, orthopedics, medical imaging, urological implants, cardiac surgery devices, embolic materials, powered prosthetics, and many others. Dr. Bluni has also represented pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in strategic portfolio development, opinion matters, freedom to operate, and other areas. Outside of life science work, Dr. Bluni leverages his training as a materials scientist and engineer to represent clients in industries that include consumer products, packaging, construction, and robotics.

Professional Experience

Prior to joining Goodwin, Dr. Bluni was the owner and managing principal of Kacvinsky Daisak Bluni, an intellectual property boutique firm. Prior to KDB, Dr. Bluni was a partner and co-chair of the intellectual property group at Bingham McCutchen, an international general practice law firm. Previously, he was a Vice President, and Chief Intellectual Property Counsel at Boston Scientific Corporation. He began his legal career as a patent examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
