Across the global real estate capital markets, how you position yourself with respect to risk and return is critical for maximizing your investments. Whether assessing demographic trends and capital flows or anticipating geographic shifts, Goodwin’s Real Estate Industry group offers deep market insight and a practical approach to help you make the most of every investment decision – from private fund formation and all types of real estate transactions to REIT and real estate M&A, we excel at what we do.
From locations across the United States and Europe, we position our public and private real estate clients for global growth and strong performance during all phases of national and international economic cycles. With a distinct emphasis on the capital markets and vital experience across all industry sectors, Goodwin employs an innovative, interdisciplinary approach to help guide your investments from inception through realization. And with the rapidly accelerating pace of technology disrupting industries around the world, we partner closely with clients to embrace the promise and potential of innovation to make a lasting impact.
Our real estate industry lawyers are experts in tax, securities and ERISA matters and help structure, negotiate and close complex public and private equity and debt financings, joint ventures, portfolio and REIT M&A, cross-border transactions, hospitality and leisure deals, and large-scale development work.
The intersection between real estate and technology is ever evolving, presenting both challenges and opportunities to companies, their investors, as well as consumers. In response to these market changes, Goodwin launched a PropTech practice designed not only encourage an active dialogue in this dynamic sector but also to help our clients explore ways of achieving their aspirations as they embark in this progressive market.
Acknowledging the convergence of industries further, we partnered with our Life Sciences practice and led the charge to identify the intersection of real estate and life sciences – PropSci – to address the growing real estate needs of life sciences companies as they face challenges in developing land and facilities that support their businesses in a continuously evolving sector.
We actively lead and participate in ongoing conversations about the real estate industry on a global scale. In January 2020, Goodwin and Columbia Business School partnered to present the 13th annual Real Estate Capital Markets Conference. This year’s event focused on the state of the real estate capital markets, global capital flows, smart cities, and climate change, as well as market-focused session on London and other current topics. Our keynote session featured Stephen A. Schwarzman, Chairman, CEO and Co-Founder of Blackstone.
Our cross-industry team is also involved with the firm’s Goodwin Labs initiative, which is aimed at supporting early-stage life sciences companies, from providing legal services to making educational content available through partnerships with startup incubators and accelerators.
